Q: Is this safari suitable for solo travellers?

Yes. This itinerary is well suited to solo travellers who enjoy meeting other people and sharing a safari experience. The overland truck format creates a social and adventurous atmosphere.

Q: What is an overland truck safari?

An overland safari uses a specially designed truck to transport travellers, camping equipment, food and luggage between destinations. It combines transportation, wildlife viewing and camping into one adventure.

Q: Will we camp every night?

No. The first night is at Merves Hotel or a similar hotel in Arusha. The remaining safari nights are planned as camping nights, subject to the final accommodation arrangement.

Q: Is the safari suitable for families?

Yes, but families should be comfortable with long road journeys, camping and sharing the vehicle with other travellers. Families travelling with young children should discuss the arrangement with Ron Adventure before booking.

Q: How many people will be in the truck?

The truck accommodates a minimum of 10 people and up to 20 people per truck, depending on the group size for your safari.

Q: What wildlife can we expect to see?

The Northern Circuit offers opportunities to see elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, antelopes and many bird species. Leopard and rhino sightings are possible but never guaranteed.

Q: When is the best time for this safari?

Northern Tanzania can be visited throughout the year. The dry season is generally favourable for wildlife viewing, while different periods of the year offer different migration experiences. The Serengeti route should therefore be adapted to the travel month and current wildlife movements

Q: Can I combine this safari with Zanzibar?

Yes. This is an excellent option. After finishing the safari in Arusha, you can fly to Zanzibar for a few days of relaxation on the beach.

Q: Is food provided during the safari?

Yes. A safari cook can prepare fresh meals for the group during the camping portion of the trip. Special dietary requirements should be communicated before departure.

Q: Do I need to bring camping equipment?

Ron Adventure can provide the main camping equipment. Travellers should bring personal items such as a sleeping bag where required, comfortable clothing, toiletries, a headlamp, sunscreen, insect repellent and personal medication.

Day 01 :

Arrival in Arusha – Welcome to Tanzania

Welcome to Tanzania!

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a Ron Adventure representative will meet you and transfer you to Merves Hotel or a similar hotel in Arusha.

After check-in, relax and recover from your journey. If you arrive early, you can explore Arusha or enjoy some free time at the hotel.

In the evening, meet your safari team for a short briefing. Your guide will explain the itinerary, camping arrangements, safety procedures, and what to expect during your 8-day overland safari.

Day 02 :

Arusha – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, meet your overland crew before leaving Arusha for Tarangire National Park.

Known for its elephants, giant baobab trees, and diverse wildlife, Tarangire is an exciting start to your safari. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive along the Tarangire River.

Look out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, antelopes, and, if you're lucky, lions.

Later, head to your campsite for dinner and your first night in the African wilderness.

Day 03 :

Tarangire – Lake Manyara National Park – Ngorongoro

Wake up to the sounds of the African bush and enjoy breakfast at camp. After packing up, continue your journey to Lake Manyara National Park.

Set beneath the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is known for its lush forests, diverse birdlife, elephants, and famous tree-climbing lions.

Enjoy a game drive through the park as you explore its changing landscapes. Along the way, look out for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hippos, baboons, and many bird species.

After the game drive, leave the park and continue to Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Activities: Lake Manyara game drive and overland travel

Day 04 :

Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, change to a Land Cruiser for a half-day game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater.

Explore the crater floor and look for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and, with luck, black rhinos. Enjoy a picnic lunch during the crater tour.

After the game drive, ascend from the crater and return to the overland truck. Continue towards Serengeti National Park as the landscape changes to open grasslands.

Arrive at camp in the evening. Enjoy dinner and relax under the African sky.

Activities: Half-day Ngorongoro Crater tour and transfer to Serengeti

Day 05 :

Full-Day Serengeti National Park

Wake up early for a full day of wildlife adventure in Serengeti National Park.

After breakfast, set out by overland truck to explore the endless plains. Serengeti is famous for its abundant wildlife and the Great Wildebeest Migration.

The best area to visit depends on the season and wildlife movements. Ron Adventure can adjust the route to match your travel dates and current conditions.

Keep your eyes open for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeest.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness before continuing your game drive. Later, return to camp as the sun sets.

Spend the evening relaxing and sharing stories with fellow travellers around the camp.

Day 06 :

Serengeti National Park – Full-Day Wildlife Adventure

Today, enjoy another full day exploring Serengeti National Park.

After breakfast, set out with your guide for a game drive. Your guide will follow recent wildlife activity and choose the best areas to explore.

Depending on the season, you may see large herds of wildebeest, zebras, and other wildlife across the plains.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before continuing your game drive through the afternoon.

Return to camp in the evening for dinner and your final night in the Serengeti.

Day 07 :

Serengeti – Ngorongoro Highlands – Karatu

Start the day with breakfast and a final morning game drive in Serengeti National Park. This is your last chance to spot wildlife before leaving the plains.

Continue towards the Ngorongoro highlands, enjoying the changing landscapes of northern Tanzania along the way.

Depending on the group schedule, you may stop near Olduvai Gorge, an important archaeological site in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Afterwards, continue to Karatu. Arrive at camp, enjoy dinner, and relax after the day’s journey.

Activities: Morning game drive and overland journey

Day 08 :

Karatu – Arusha – Departure

Enjoy breakfast before starting your journey back to Arusha.

Travel through the scenic landscapes of northern Tanzania, with a stop for lunch along the way.

Arrive in Arusha in the afternoon. If your flight is later that day, we can arrange a transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

You can also extend your Tanzania experience with a Zanzibar beach holiday, Kilimanjaro trek, or another adventure.

Your 8-Day Tanzania Northern Circuit Overland Truck Safari ends in Arusha.
