However, in terms of day trekking, this might not be as common as the entire route is typically a multi-day journey to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro. That said, you can opt for day treks around the Marangu area, which is a beautiful region with various options for day hiking and exploration.

What to Expect

Lush Vegetation: The lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro are characterized by lush rainforests. Expect to walk through vibrant green landscapes with tall trees and diverse plant life.

Terrain and Elevation: The trail may involve some elevation gain, so you should be prepared for uphill and downhill sections. The terrain is generally well-maintained and not too challenging for most hikers.

Wildlife: Keep an eye out for wildlife such as birds, monkeys, and other animals that may be seen in the forested areas.

Itinerary

1 night in Arusha or Moshi

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you’ll be greeted by our friendly staff and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha at Venus Hotel. Take some time to rest and prepare for the exciting days ahead.

Transit driving distance and time: 55 Kms – 1-hour drive

Road condition: Tar-marked Road (Asphalt) for transit

Day trekking Marangu Route

After breakfast and briefing, drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate to register, and commence the climb. Walk through the rainforest to the Mandara encampment. A side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus trees, bird life, and Colobus monkeys. The guide will be with you to provide you with local knowledge and ensure your safety. Return to the lodge/ or proceed to Kilimanjaro international airport for your flight back home.
