The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact caldera, formed by the collapse of a large volcano approximately two to three million years ago. It spans an area of about 260 square kilometers (100 square miles) and is approximately 610 meters (2,000 feet) deep.
Often referred to as the “Eden of Africa,” the Ngorongoro Crater is home to a diverse array of wildlife. This includes large populations of lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinos, and leopards, making it one of the best places in Africa for wildlife viewing. Other species found here include cheetahs, hippos, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, and various species of antelope.
