1. Best Travel Period:
This safari is specially designed for the calving season, which takes place between late January and early March in the Southern Serengeti (Ndutu area). Booking within this window maximizes your chances of witnessing wildebeest births and predator interactions.
2. Wildlife Sightings Are Natural:
While the calving season offers excellent wildlife viewing, sightings are not guaranteed as animals move freely in the wild. Our experienced guides will do their best to position you in the right place at the right time.
3. Weather Conditions:
Expect warm days and cool mornings, and evenings. Occasional rains may occur, as calving season coincides with the green season. A light rain jacket and waterproof bags are recommended.
4. Luggage Restrictions:
Soft-sided bags are recommended for easy storage in safari vehicles. Pack light, with essentials such as sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, sunglasses, binoculars, and comfortable clothing in neutral colors.
5. Health and Safety:
Although not mandatory, anti-malarial medication is recommended. Please consult your doctor before travel. Bring any personal medications and a basic first aid kit.
6. Accommodation Standards:
Lodges and tented camps used in this program are mid-range to upper mid-range, depending on your preference and availability. All offer en-suite bathrooms, quality service, and proximity to wildlife.
7. Crater Entry Regulations:
Ngorongoro Crater game drives are limited to 6 hours due to conservation regulations. Early morning descents are scheduled to optimize wildlife viewing.
8. Child Policy:
Children under 12 are welcome on this safari but must be accompanied by an adult. Note that some accommodations may have age restrictions for safety.
9. Payment & Cancellation:
A deposit is typically required to confirm your booking, with the balance payable before arrival. Cancellation policies depend on the lodge and can vary. Please request full terms and conditions.
10. Travel Insurance:
Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical, trip cancellation, and emergency evacuation is strongly recommended.
Best Time to Visit:
The ideal time to go on this safari is between mid-January and mid-March. This is the peak of the Great Wildebeest Calving Season, when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest gather on the nutrient-rich plains of Ndutu, in the southern Serengeti ecosystem.
During this time:
Over 8,000 calves are born each day, making it a spectacular and emotional wildlife event.
Predator activity is at its highest – lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and leopards take advantage of the abundance of vulnerable newborns.
The landscape is lush and green, offering stunning photographic opportunities.
Why Book Early:
High demand and limited space: The calving season is a popular and short seasonal window. Lodges and camps in Ndutu fill up months in advance.
Better rates and availability: Booking 3–6 months early secures your preferred accommodations and often better prices.
Peak wildlife experience: This is a once-in-a-lifetime safari moment, ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone wanting to witness the full drama of the Great Migration’s life cycle.
Quick Tip:
Combine your booking with travel dates between late January and early March for the best chance to witness multiple wildlife births and predator encounters — all set against the backdrop of green savannah plains and acacia woodlands.

It’s the largest land-based migration in the world. Witnessing thousands-strong herds stretched out in front of you is a sight you never forget.
