9-Day Tanzania Safari Adventure to Western Kilimanjaro
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), located about 46 kilometers from Arusha, you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome by your Ron Adventure Safari guide. After a short introduction and safari briefing, you’ll travel comfortably in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser to your hotel in Arusha.
After check-in, take some time to relax and enjoy lunch at the lodge. You may choose to unwind by the pool or, if time allows, explore parts of Arusha town, known for its lively markets and friendly locals. As evening falls, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner and settle in for a restful night—ready to begin your exciting Tanzania safari adventure the following day. Overnight at Arusha Coffee Lodge.
After an early breakfast, depart for Arusha National Park to enjoy a peaceful canoe safari on the Momella Lakes. Spend around two hours paddling across the still waters as you take in the surrounding beauty and listen to the sounds of nature. The area is rich in birdlife, with regular sightings of flamingos, pelicans, herons, and the impressive African fish eagle. You might also come across hippos resting in the shallows and see giraffes, buffaloes, or bushbucks grazing nearby.
While gliding over the lake, take in the spectacular views of Mount Meru, and if the skies are clear, you may even spot Mount Kilimanjaro on the horizon.
After lunch, continue your journey to Tarangire National Park, about a 2–3-hour drive (roughly 130 kilometers). On arrival, enjoy a short evening game drive through a landscape known for its massive elephant herds and towering baobab trees.
Later, check into your comfortable lodge or tented camp near the park, where you can relax and listen to the sounds of the African night. Dinner and overnight at Elephant Spring Lodge.
After enjoying breakfast, set out for Tarangire National Park, a genuine wilderness famed for its substantial elephant herds and the striking baobab trees that punctuate the landscape. Spend the entire day discovering the park’s expansive plains, tracing the path of the Tarangire River, an essential water source that draws an astonishing variety of wildlife, particularly during the dry season.
In this area, you can witness enormous herds of elephants, sometimes exceeding a hundred members, alongside prides of lions, some of which are known to climb trees. The park’s open grasslands and acacia woodlands also provide a habitat for giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and numerous species of antelope.
Tarangire’s combination of savannahs, wetlands, and acacia forests presents a variety of landscapes and fantastic chances for photography throughout the day. Enjoy dinner and spend the night at Elephant Spring Lodge.
After breakfast, leave Tarangire National Park and journey toward Lake Manyara National Park, located about 110 kilometers away—a drive of roughly two to three hours. The route offers scenic views, passing through open countryside and lush green landscapes as you approach the beautiful surroundings of Lake Manyara. Resting below the dramatic Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park is admired for its rich variety of habitats, ranging from grassy plains and dense woodlands to sparkling lake shores.
Upon arrival, begin your game drive and immerse yourself in the park’s incredible wildlife. Lake Manyara is renowned for its rare tree-climbing lions, large elephant families, and impressive flocks of flamingos that seasonally tint the lake’s surface pink. You might also spot hippos cooling off in the shallows, playful baboons in the forests, and a wide array of colorful birdlife.
In the afternoon, continue exploring along the lakeside to observe pelicans, storks, and other aquatic birds before heading deeper into the savanna, where giraffes, antelopes, and buffalo roam freely. As the day ends, take in the stunning panorama of the Rift Valley escarpment, then drive to your lodge for dinner and a peaceful overnight stay at Manyara Secret Lodge.
After breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Highlands toward the stunning Empakaai Crater, located about 40 km from the main Ngorongoro Crater (approximately 1–2 hours’ drive). Upon arrival, meet your local ranger-guide and begin your guided walking adventure into this spectacular volcanic caldera.
Descend along a steep forested path for about 30 to 45 minutes through lush montane forest, where you may spot monkeys, bushbuck, and colorful birds. At the crater floor, the breathtaking emerald-green lake comes into view, often dotted with thousands of pink flamingos and other waterbirds. The 3–4-hour round-trip hike allows you to walk around the lake’s edge, taking in the peaceful surroundings and admiring panoramic views of the Oldoinyo Lengai volcano, the sacred mountain of the Maasai.
Empakaai is not only a paradise for bird enthusiasts but also a refuge for wildlife such as buffalo, hyena, and elephant, which sometimes visit the lake to drink. Enjoy a picnic lunch amid this pristine wilderness before beginning your ascent back to the rim.
In the afternoon, visit a Maasai Village around the Ngorongoro area for cultural activities, and later drive to Ngorongoro Lion’s Paw for an overnight stay.
After a hearty breakfast, set off for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, one of Africa's most stunning natural spectacles. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, recognized as the world's largest unbroken caldera and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend the first half of the day discovering this extraordinary ecosystem, bordered by 600-meter-high walls that provide a habitat for a remarkable range of wildlife. On the crater floor, large groups of wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, and gazelles graze peacefully, closely observed by lions and hyenas. With a stroke of luck, you might also glimpse the rare and endangered black rhino, one of Tanzania's most coveted sightings. Relish the picturesque landscapes of the soda lake, frequently scattered with flamingos, and appreciate the vast grasslands and wetlands during your 6–7 hour game drive. Keep your eyes peeled for elephants, particularly the magnificent tusked bulls that enhance the uniqueness of this area. By late afternoon, ascend to the crater rim and proceed to the Serengeti, where you'll spend the night at Sametu Luxury Camps.
Visit the renowned Serengeti National Park, home to one of the highest concentrations of animals anywhere, for a full day exploring it. Your seasoned Ron Adventure guide will help you to follow the motions of lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and herds of elephants, zebras, and buffalo. Wildebeests grazing at liberty across the large savannah. The Serengeti offers one of the most real safari trips in Africa.
Continue your trip in the afternoon with another game drive, focusing on riverine areas where predators often lie in wait and where animals gather to drink. The varied bird population of the park which comprises brilliant, smaller species covering the terrain as well as soaring, majestic eagles and vultures.
As the sun sinks, go back to camp for a newly prepared meal under the stars. Enjoy the stillness and tell stories near the campfire. African night, overnight at the Sametu Luxury Camps
